![]() This crisis, created by the financial and social irresponsibility of "democracy," compelled the convening in 1787 - barely four years after wining their war for independence - of the convention that led to the writing of our Constitution. Filed under: Politics / Government, America This Thomas Jefferson sure would not fit in today. If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. Let's just see what Thomas Jefferson has to say about that: That form of government in which the sovereign power resides in and is exercised by the whole body of free citizens directly or indirectly through a system of representation, as distinguished from a monarchy, aristocracy, or oligarchy. That form of government in which the powers of sovereignty are vested in the people and are exercised by the people, either directly, or through representatives chosen by the people, to whome those powers are specially delegated. So what is a Republic supposed to be like? Republic I believe that is how we are running things these days. Let's see what Thomas Jefferson has to say on this:Ī democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. In a Democracy the sovereignty is in the group. In a Republic the sovereignty is in each individual person. It's because it was never intended for America to be a Democracy.Ī Republic and a Democracy are identical in every aspect except one. There is a reason why the word "Republic" is used in our Pledge of Allegiance and not the word "Democracy". I suppose they are accurate in calling America a Democracy because that is what it has become however, it isn't supposed to be this way. Millions of people pledge their allegiance to the Republic everyday but yet still call it a Democracy. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,Īnd to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Let's start this off with something probably only 1/2 of Americans know: ![]()
